Friendly and inclusive
As well as providing tools, machinery and a space for woodcrafting, we aim to provide a friendly atmosphere and encourage camaraderie among members. We are a friendly bunch and welcome all comers.

We also aim to be as inclusive as we can of people of all abilities, while observing safe work practices. Wood working machinery by its very nature can be dangerous so safety is our highest priority.

Membership is available to people aged 16 years and over. People under 16 can attend, but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and supervised by a member. People under 16 are not required to pay membership fees, but the parent or guardian must be a financial member.

There are no attendance requirements as such, and members are free to make whatever projects they desire. There is a large stock of free material, and a supply of some high-quality materials at very reasonable prices

All new members are required to undertake safety training before they are allowed to use power tools and machines. Trained members are available to help new members with their projects until they have satisfactorily completed the safety training.

Ultimately, the instructing officer must be satisfied a new member can work safely before they start unsupervised work.

We do not teach woodwork or other technical skills. Nevertheless, there are a number of members qualified and experienced in a variety of trades and these people are happy to provide help and tips to beginners, or even to more experienced members when they require assistance. In addition, instruction sessions on using certain woodwork techniques and making specific objects are run from time to time for those who are interested.
